Mechanic
Position Summary:
This 2nd or 3rd shift Mechanic maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots business operation objects which include but not limited to production machinery, utilities equipment, etc. It also provides predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance to Production Equipment.
Mechanic – entry level into the field maintenance technicians. Incumbents with basic maintenance experience, use of tools and equipment and a wide variety of practices and procedures. As experience and competence is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence.
Position Responsibilities:
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:
Customer Services
- Ensure the continuous operation of the Utilities equipment to comply with applicable regulations, and improve efficiency, focusing on productivity while minimizing downtime.
Regulatory Compliance & Recordkeeping
- Comply with all the applicable regulations such as: cGMP, OSHA, EPA, DOH, PRASA, approved procedures and Quality and EHS Corporate Standards; Complete routine operational data gathering in established checklists and forms.
- Document, inspections, preventive, and corrective maintenance activities as per applicable procedures and/or guidelines.
Operations Management
- Performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance activities depending upon area of assignment including performing basic trade activities.
- Performs scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance activities to Utilities equipment and systems.
- Perform monitoring/operation/control of utilities systems processes, and equipment as required.
- Will appropriately and in a timely fashion document as required monitoring readings, test results, changes to operational parameters, maintenance activities and any other performed action and or system/equipment observed problems.
- Performs troubleshooting and repairs, among others, as applicable.
- Clean, lubricate, and maintain machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, stains etc.….
- Support the creation/modification of Preventive Maintenance Schedules.
- Provide support to capital projects, validations, inspections, investigations, and special task as required.
- Identify and implement object improvements.
- Expertise to read parts manuals, assembly instructions, troubleshooting guides, hydraulic schematics, pneumatic schematics, and electrical schematics.
- Support RFT, TPM and lean strategies and other change processes assigned.
- Performs all duties in a safe manner and keeps all employees aware of dangers in work area. Practices excellent housekeeping in work area.
- Performs accuracy verifications on objects to ensure they can produce to required specifications.
- Support set up process for utilities equipment.
- Knowledge of the Utilities operation.
- Identify and update information of the critical spare parts inventory levels.
- Perform in-process sampling and testing of selected operations as required.
- Support SOPs Revision
- Train colleagues and peers in required SOP and Utilities systems to facilitate the cross training within the team.
- Generate Purchase requisitions for services or goods required in the Utilities operation / maintenance.
Education and Experience:
Education
- Minimum High School diploma/GED
- Preferred Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Mechanic, Electronic, Electrical, Refrigeration, Tool and Die Maker, or Instrumentation.
Experience
- Two + years of assignment-related maintenance/equipment experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed in the essential functions or experience in at least 1 operational functions and intermediate knowledge in at least 2 operational functions.
- Experience in operation and maintenance of Production equipment is highly desirable.
- Understanding of cGxP , OSHA, EPA and other Regulatory Requirements.
- Ability to work under minimum supervision.
- Must be capable of demonstrating effective oral and written communication skills.
- Must have basic personal computer skills with a preferred working knowledge of current CMMS application.
- Must be able to work successfully in a team environment.
- Proficient communication skills.
- Highly motivated with effective leadership skills.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and schematics.
- High level of technical expertise in one of the following electrical, electronics, mechanical, automation.
- Must have valid drivers’ license.
Technical Skills
- Troubleshooting and diagnosing problems
- Reading and understand blueprints, drawings, specifications, and technical materials.
- Determining solutions
- High level operational skills in at least one (1) of the essential functions and basic skills in at least two (2) of the operational functions. Refer below for operation functions information:

- Good troubleshooting, e.g., evaluating symptoms, and determining root causes.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; reach, stretch hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, push & pull objects, rotating and repetitive movements, climb stairs and must be able to see, talk or hear. The employee must lift up to 30 pounds; and/or move and/or transport objects/waste. Exposed to variant shifts and extended hours. Subject to stressful environment.
- Must be able to walk, sit, or stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to reach above shoulder level, bend/stoop, kneel, push/pull, and handle/grip frequently.
- Must be comfortable working in varying temperatures.
- Must be able to work scheduled 40 hours with the ability to work overtime as needed.
- Frequent lifting and carrying of 5 to 30 lbs.
- Regular reaching, bending, stooping, and twisting.
- Repetitive motion and substantial movement of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee very frequently works in operational environments (Utilities and Machine Shop Areas, among other areas). The noise of these work environments can vary from typical office noises to high (above 85 dBA) machinery noises and high temperatures. Also makes use of computer programs such as CMMS, Intranet portals, and Microsoft office among others. Position can require traveling between locations.
